Ulagichni tanlashda biz hisobga oladigan asosiy ko'rsatkichlar quyidagilarni o'z ichiga oladi: ulash darajasi, izolyatsiya darajasi, qo'shish yo'qotilishi, yo'nalish, kirish chiqishining tik turgan to'lqin nisbati, chastota diapazoni, quvvat kattaligi, diapazon amplitudasi va kirish empedansi.
Ulagichning asosiy vazifasi kirish signalining bir qismini ulash portiga ulash, qolgan qismi esa boshqa portdan chiqishdir.
Amaliy qo'llanmalarda ulagichlar ko'p jihatdan qo'llaniladi. U signallarni taqsimlash va quvvatni aniqlash uchun, masalan, antenna tizimlarida bir nechta qabul qilgichlarga yoki uzatgichlarga signallarni tarqatish uchun ishlatilishi mumkin.
